Build a School in Gambia Charity Golf Day Report

The Build a School in Gambia Charity were delighted to have hosted their third annual charity golf day held recently on the stunning Gainsborough golf course at Stoke by Nayland on Friday May 17th.

At 11.00am 128 golfers teed off for a ‘shotgun’ start in chilly conditions, competing for prizes donated by many generous sponsors, some in attendance on the day. There were individual and team prizes, nearest-the-pin and longest drive competitions.

Team winners of the tournament were Total Water Solutions with the individual first place won by Gary Porter of Heating Central.

Following the success of last year’s charity golf day once again Coversure Insurance sponsored the third and most successful charity day to date, with £16,300 being raised on the day. Event organiser for BASIG Alan Seager commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to have raised such a large amount which was way ahead of the projected £13,500 the amount raised last year.”

The valuable work of BASIG relies to a large extent upon the goodwill and generosity of supporters. Money raised from fundraising events is spent where it is most needed at any given time. This year fundraising priorities include continued support and running costs for the school in The Gambia which was completed on September 13th last year using funds from the previous two years charity events.

Our thanks go to Stoke by Nayland Golf Club for their professional hosting of the event, to all the businesses who have supported us. The amount raised could never have been achieved without the help of our sponsors so we thank you all very much for your invaluable generosity and hope that you will be able to participate in future events to help the project moving forward.
