Welcome to Build A School in Gambia
The BUILD A SCHOOL IN GAMBIA project has come about as a result of my ongoing involvement with the Gambia and the education of their children and began in 1994 when I visited the Gambia on holiday.
The Gambia is situated on the coast of West Africa and has an average day temperature of 32°C/89°F, beautiful beaches and everything is relatively inexpensive; a seemingly perfect holiday destination.
During my holiday I was shocked to learn that, at that time, of the country’s 1.65 million citizens over 60% of those over 15 were illiterate and less than 50% of children were able to go to school. Subsequently I decided to visit some local schools to gain a better understanding of the education available to local youngsters.
